Hundreds of supporters turned out at ISEF’s 34th Anniversary Benefit Dinner at New York’s Plaza Hotel on May 4,  2011, to salute Lifetime Achievement honorees Joseph Rose and Walter Weiner.

“This year’s honorees are unique in the consistent, enduring role that each of them has played throughout ISEF’s history,” said ISEF Chairman Carlos Benaim. “We are eternally grateful for their contributions to furthering ISEF’s mission of educating young Israelis from underserved communities.”

As Chairman and CEO of Republic New York Corporation and Republic National Bank for two decades, Walter worked closely with the late Edmond J. Yvonne and Barry z"l Cohen Book Fund

Dear Mrs. Cohen,

Your support, in addition to my scholarship for medical school, is helping me to succeed.

Since I received your help to buy a stethoscope, I have been able to discern different sounds coming from the heart, recognize certain problems related to the heart and the lungs, and better understand what the doctor is explaining regarding each patient. Now I understand how to better help the patients.

I am now better prepared for my exams in internal medicine every Sunday. The book I purchased "Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine" is the "bible" for medical students.

I am also very grateful because as a religious girl, I can study on Shabbat from a book and this is a real savior.
